Headaches. Understanding The Pattern.

When headaches interrupt your plans, clear answers matter. Start by understanding the pattern and which kind of help may be right for you.

Start With The History

We ask where the pain is, how often it happens, what accompanies it and whether anything has changed. Keeping a headache diary can help you describe the pattern. New, frequent or changing headaches may need a GP assessment before considering care here.

Where The Neck May Be Relevant

Some headaches arise from the neck and are described as cervicogenic headaches. Having neck pain alongside a headache does not by itself establish that diagnosis. If assessment suggests a musculoskeletal contribution, we can discuss whether exercise, advice or hands-on care is appropriate. We do not claim that chiropractic treats every type of headache.

When To Get Medical Help

Call 999 or go to A&E for a sudden extremely painful headache, or headache with weakness, confusion, speech or walking difficulty, seizure, loss of vision, or a high fever and stiff neck. A headache after a recent head injury also needs emergency assessment. Seek urgent GP or NHS 111 advice for headache with vomiting, eye or vision problems, or pain triggered by exercise or coughing. See the full NHS guidance.
